Pre-K TEKS Technololgy Applications TEKS

By building a base for our young students they come with confidence and experience to do well within the classroom from Kindergarten on through high school. The Pre-K TEKS are skills that can build a strong start for our students. Beginning to develop the language and communications skills helps to increase students effectiveness in a real world situation. With the knowledge of effective communication and language students when in school can move pass this basic skill and move towards enhancing their message with a variety of programs that can effectively display the message. PreK technology applications TEKS allow a foundation for young learners to build from and enhance when they get into school and become active members of a learning community.

A spiraling or scaffolding curriculum is essential to retention of skills and knowledge presented in school settings. The old saying "Use it or lose it" is a wonderful example of why this technique is important. By introducing a skill in a lower grade and continuously building on it's depth and rigor throughout the following grade levels you allow students to one step at a time become proficient and excel in that certain skill. Students need a solid base in order to build a skill with confidence and certainty they are correct.

This spiraling and scaffolding technique is present in skills for Information Acquisition.
TEKS 5A: The student acquires electronic informaiton in a variety of fomrats with appropriate supervision.

In grades K-2, students are expected to acquire information in a variety of program types and to also be able to use on-line help.

In grades 3-5, students are still expected to acquire information in a variety of program types and be able to use on-line help, and to add to this skill also use help documentation.

In grades 6-8, students are expected to do all of the above, but also take it one more step and increase the depth and rigor to include not only acquiring information but also creating and using files in a variety of programs. They are still expected to use on-line help and documentation. To increase the rigor of this TEKS the student is expected to demonstrate the ability to access, operate and manipulate information from secondary story and remote devices.

As you can see the original expectations are present throughout K-8, this helps to ensure the mastery of these skills. But as the student's ability grows they are expected to not only acquire, but to create and use these pieces of information in their learning and research.
